Race 1  - Grand Casino Maiden, $15,000, 1400m

Ebony Turner had her first win as a trainer when Vanity charged home to win. Vanity was having her fourth start for the Riverton-based Turner, who began training six months ago. She has three horses in work. Vanity came from second last at the 350m in a 10-horse field to win by two lengths in the hands of Rohan Mudhoo.

Race 2 Crombie Lockwood Insurance Brokers Maiden, $40,000 1400m

Jamie Bullard, who won the White Robe Lodge four times as a jockey, produced Nortibutnice to win as a trainer. He races the 4-year-old Niagara mare with Murray Hamilton, of Central Otago. Nortibutnice(Kylie Williams), who started from barrier 16, finished boldly from mid-field to win by three and a half lengths.

Race 3 Target Accounting, rating 75, $40,000, 1400m

Capo Dell Impero mastered 59.5kg with an impressive win. He was steadied to the rear of the 13-horse field from a wide draw, improved wide from the  400m, and got up in the last few strides to beat Jewel Of Patch by half a head. Global Beauty did well for fourth. “He is better when ridden back and could get over more ground,’’ said Shane Anderton, his co-trainer.

Race 4: Property Brokers Dunedin, open, $40,000, 1200m

“I read the situation and kept out of trouble,” said jockey Jasmine Fawcett after riding Eptimum to win. Fawcett was faced with a loose horse (Ihu) in the field and she took Eptimum to the front after 300m. Ihu left the starting gates without rider Kavish Chowdhoory. It was the second successive win for Eptimum, trained by John Blackadder, who races the son of Snitzel with Henry Gillies and Phil Blacktopp.

Race 5: Nellies Bar and Restaurant Dunedin Guineas, $80,000, 3yo, 1500m

Specialty, tried in blinkers, was back to his best in winning. “The better track and the blinkers,” made the difference said co-trainer Varma Ramhit.  Specialty had finished seventh in the Gore Guineas on a rain-affected track at his previous start. Specialty is co-trained by Bruce Tapper, the owner with his wife, Karen through Clearview Park Ltd. They bred Speciality who was ridden by Brandon May. Specialty came from mid-field and won by a length and a half from the favorite Romancing The Moon, received a good run close to the pace. There were five lengths to Charbano, a stablemate of Romancing The Moon.

Race 6: Dunedin City Motors, rating 65, $40,000, 2200m

Savvy Man vindicated the high opinion of him held by trainer Michael Pitman with his win. “ He is just a dead-set stayer and I would have hesitation in setting him for the New Zealand Cup,’’ said Pitman after the Savabeel gelding outstayed his rivals emphatically. Savvy Man settled tenth and sustained a big run wide out from the 350m to win by two and three-quarter lengths. It was a change of fortunes for jockey Kavish Chowdhoory, who parted company with Ihu at the start of race 4.

Race 7: Positive Signs + Print Dunedin Gold Cup

 Honesty, trained at Winton by Leda Beck, caused a boilover. She continued a run of success for Matamata jockey Jasmine Fawcett, who won five races at Riccarton the previous Saturday. Honesty, raced by Steven Waters, of the North Island,  paid $21.50 to win and $5.70 for a place. Fawcett had won earlier in the day of Eptimum.

Honesty was in the care of Allan Beck, Leda’s husband today. Leda was at the Gore show with her daughter, Sarah.  Fawcett gave Honesty the run of the race behind the pacemaker, Wannabe In Paris, and came through to win narrowly from Riviera Rock, who was game under 59kg.

Race 8 Steve Anderton Memorial, rating 65, $40,000, 1200m

Zoulander overcame a slow start to win. The Michael and Matthew Pitman-trained Zoulander was last early in a 14-horse field. He improved three wide from the 600m and sustained the effort to win by three-quarters of a length from his stablemate Express Coup, who made the pace.

Race 9: 50th White Robe Lodge, WFA, $100,000, 1600m

Perfect Scenario,  ridden superbly by apprentice Joe Kamaruddin,  eclipsed his rivals. Perfect Scenario, trained at Matamata by Mark Walker, upstaged his stablemate and group one winner Prise De Fer,  who failed to fire. Perfect Scenario settled last in the 11-horse field, then improved along the inner and dashed clear in the closing stages to win by three and a quarter lengths.  Jason Laking, the rider of Prise De Fer said his mount was “flat throughout.” A post-race veterinary inspection did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 10:  ODT Southern Mile Qualifier, $40,000, rating 65, 1600m

Prince Alby came from last in a 14-horse field at the 400m to win. It was the second win in 12 starts for the Sacred Falls gelding trained at Riverton by Kelvin and Aimee Tyler and raced by Kelvin and Vanessa Tyler. He had a trip to Australia in between times for two third placings in seven starts in Queensland. He won narrowly from La Opcion who rattled home from mid-field.  His other win was a maiden at Wingatui in March.
