Otago Racing Club at Wingatui 4/11/2025 Weather, overcast; track, good (4), rail, true position.

Race 1: More FM Maiden, $25,000, 1600m

Quisiera broke through for a win after finishing second in her other five starts this season. Quisiera (Tina Comignaghi) was soon a clear leader and lasted by a head from Perfect Tycoon. The 3yr-old Sweynese – Lezani filly is owned and trained by John and Karen Parsons.

Race 2: The Ned Maiden, $25,000, 1400m

“We think he (Pontoon) got his tongue over the bit and choked down when he was beaten in the Barneswood at his previous start. We were going to turn him out and he was galloping around the paddock, so we pressed on and put a tongue tie on him today,” said owner Paul Cuneen after Pontoon won. The 3yr-old Ace High -Upfrontncentre gelding bred by Cuneen is trained at Wingatui by Shankar Muniandy. He won by a length after racing close to the pace.

Race 3: Positive Signs+Print rating 75, $40,000, 2200m

Complicate gave a bold display on front running to win. The Complacent mare trained at Washdyke by part-owner Brent Inglis held on by a long neck when ridden by Floor Moerman. Allibor, the former Australian galloper, ran an encouraging race for second with a length and a half to the favourite Stolen Magic who was running on.

Race 4: Speight’s Maiden, $25,000, 1200m

Red Invader displayed a fine turn of foot in the run home to win. Ridden by Terry Moseley, Red Invader came from fifth at the 300m to score by a head from Lucky Ferando with a length and a half to Melo, who held on well after leading. Red Invader, a 5yr-old by Russian Revolution is trained at Winton by Leda Beck for a big group of owners.

Race 5 Property Brokers – Ray Kean rating 75 $40,000, 1200m

No Party have further evidence he was a rising star with a win at short odds when transversing from heavy tracks to good footing. He settled fifth, was angled wide at the straight entrance and charged home to win by three quarters of a length from stablemate Move On. The Brian and Shane Anderton-trained No Party has now won three of his five starts.

Race 6: Dakota Boutique + Lifestyle rating 65, $40,000, 1200m

“I think she just needed the firm track,” said trainer Kelly Shearing after the win of Jessie Jay. “I would like to take her to NZ Cup week, but she is not a big horse, and it will depend on how she recovers from her race today.” Kelly trains Jessie Jay for the Roaring Hoarse syndicate. Jessie Jay came from seventh and won by half a length from Sabrina Hall, who was having her first start for Wingatui trainer Joe Waldron. Pete’s Pride was close up third.

Race 7: Otago Engineering, rating 65, $40,000, 1400m

Afire gave trainers Brian and Shane Anderton their second win for the day when she won by two and a half lengths from stablemate Southern Country who stormed home from second last.  Cockahoop fought on for third after leading on the home turn. Afire (Kylie Williams) raced handy on the inner and assumed the lead near the 250m. Belardo Ace came wide out from last for fourth.

Race 8: Grand Casino Handicap $50,000, 1400m

Inflamed, back in blinkers, gave nothing else a chance. Ridden by Donovan Cooper, Inflamed made the pace and won by two and a half lengths. Stablemate Capo Del Impero ran on boldly from the rear for second to provide the Anderton stable with the quinella for the third time on the programme.

Race 9: KB Contractors rating 75, $40,000, 1600m

Loose Sally came from last early to win decisively. She settled 10 lengths off the lead and improved on the outer from the 600m to win by a length and a quarter. She advanced her record to four wins from eight starts for owner Ray Chalkin and trainer Shankar Muniandy. Ruvanesh Muniandy has been the rider each time. Loose Sally began racing with a win at Wingatui 12 months ago. Caffeinated fought on for second after making the pace with a length to Maximus Augustus who raced handy.
